The Umpqua Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon, Oregon Small Woodlands Association Douglas County Chapter, Umpqua Valley Farm to School, and Umpqua Native Plant Partnership are excited to host a Seed Swap on November 9, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Rainbow Kitchen in Roseburg. This event is open to anyone interested in native and locally adapted seeds, gardening, and ecological restoration. The Umpqua Valley Farmers Market will be happening at the same time and place too!
How the Event Works:
What to Bring: Feel free to bring your saved seeds, whether they are native, non-invasive, or garden varieties. Commercial seeds are not encouraged, but homemade or locally adapted seeds are highly welcomed!
Seed Swap Timeframe: The event will run from 10 AM to 1 PM, and attendees are welcome to come and go throughout this period. However, it’s recommended to arrive early for the best selection.
Swapping Process: Organizers will help categorize seeds into general types (trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses, etc.), and participants are encouraged to share generously. There is no strict "first-come, first-served" system – everyone will have a chance to swap seeds and walk away with some new varieties.
Seed and Plant Sales: On a case-by-case basis, there may be plants or seeds available for purchase in addition to the swaps. Check with the event organizers for details on available items.
Event Duration: Based on participant feedback, the event will last for approximately 3 hours, allowing time for a relaxed, community-driven exchange.
Time: November 9, 2024 | 10 AM - 1 PM
Special Notes:
If you're unable to stay for the whole event, you can still drop off your seeds at a designated point and pick up seeds later.
For those who don’t have seeds to bring, no worries! Everyone is welcome to participate, even if you're just getting started and want to take home seeds to grow.
This Seed Swap is a great opportunity to support biodiversity, meet fellow gardeners and conservationists, and build a stronger, greener community. We look forward to seeing you there!
